The Brass Crab Doorbell Ringer was designed by Michael Healy, an accomplished Rhode Island artisan, known for his Unique Doorbell Ringers. Michael recalls his childhood days on the shores of Cape Cod. Displaying this handsome sculpture will surely set any door apart while telling visitors of your special affinity to the sea.The Crab Doorbell Ringer is cast in solid brass, which accounts for its substantial weight. Brass and bronze are copper-based alloys. The yellow brass alloy used in many of Michael's designs contains 70% copper and produces a warm, traditional brass look. Red bronze contains almost 85% copper. This additional copper content gives the bronze alloy its rich, reddish undertone. The mirrored finish of polished brass and polished bronze is achieved through varying degrees of sanding and buffing. Michael uses these techniques to highlight or accent the raised areas on a piece. It is hand-crafted using the age old art of foundry casting. During the foundry casting process molten brass is heated to over 2000ºF then carefully poured into a hand made sand mold. This mold is used only once, giving each Doorbell Ringer its individual character. The Crab Doorbell Ringer has been polished and coated with a clear lacquer to protect its original finish.
